Shopify migration

How much does a Shopify migration cost in Australia?

Anywhere from $5,000 to $60,000+ AUD - not because agencies invent numbers, but because the word “migration” covers very different jobs. Here is what each budget tier actually buys, and where the money goes.

Local agency pricing guides put professionally built Shopify stores at $10,000 to $50,000, with Shopify Plus builds running $30,000 to $100,000+, and Australian Shopify developer rates sitting around $80 to $200 per hour. Migration-specific quotes for platforms like Neto typically land between $5,000 and $25,000+ depending on complexity.

For platform-specific detail, see our guide to migrating from Neto, Magento or WooCommerce .

The ~$5K migration

At this level you are paying for a competent lift-and-shift, not a rebuild.

Expect an off-the-shelf theme configured to roughly match your brand, data migration for products and customers (and usually a limited order history), standard app installs, basic redirects for top pages, and enough testing to confirm checkout works.

Fine for a store with a few hundred clean SKUs, no B2B pricing, no ERP, and a theme-friendly brand. Not fine for anyone else.

The ~$15K migration

The realistic floor for most established Australian merchants - where the work starts looking like engineering rather than data entry.

A properly customised premium theme, complete and audited data migration, real attention to integrations (Xero, shipping, Klaviyo, Google and Meta tracking), a full redirect map, structured pre-launch testing, and staff training.

The $40K+ migration

Now you are re-platforming a business, not moving a website.

Custom design and front-end build, ERP or WMS integration, B2B functionality, Shopify Markets, custom apps to replace native old-platform logic, and staged testing with a rehearsed cutover plan. If revenue depends on wholesale pricing or untouched ERP flows, this is your tier.

What blows budgets out

ERP and warehouse integrations. Middleware, field mapping, partial fulfilments and returns. Scope this first.

B2B pricing. Customer-specific lists and terms need Shopify B2B (Plus) or apps - rules rarely map one-to-one.

Custom checkout and discount logic. Legacy checkout customisation is gone; migrations now land on Checkout Extensibility from day one.

Bad data. Inconsistent SKUs, duplicates, orphaned images. Budget for cleaning it or inherit the mess.

Why the cheapest quote usually costs more

Cheap quotes exclude the work that protects revenue: redirects, order history, tracking rebuilt properly. Fixing a botched migration costs more than doing it once - original job, rescue job, and lost revenue in between.

Getting a real number

A useful quote requires someone to look at your catalogue, integrations and data before naming a figure. Send the basics - current platform, rough SKU count, what needs to connect - and we will come back with a straight answer on scope and cost.
